Ceist:

157 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education if the honours english leaving certificate examination papers submitted for rechecks by students from St. Mary's School, Dundalk, County Louth, were rechecked by one examiner or by a number of different examiners. [5480/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 156 and 157 together.

The examination papers in English submitted by the 80 honours leaving certificate candidates from St. Mary's School, Dundalk for the 1995 examination were all marked by the same examiner. The 18 scripts submitted for rechecking through the appeals system were all rechecked by one examiner, who was an advising examiner for the marking process and was not involved in the original marking of the scripts.

Micheál Martin

Ceist:

158 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education the personnel within her Department who carried out the recheck of the marks of the 11,000 1995 leaving certificate art entries carried out between 15 and 20 December 1995; and the level or grades of these personnel within the Civil Service structure. [5481/96]

The exercise referred to by the Deputy was undertaken to establish that all art candidates in the 1995 leaving certificate examinations had received credit for all components for which they had presented for examination. This exercise was carried out by officers in the clerical, executive and assistant principal grades under the overall direction of a Principal Officer.
