Vol. 462 No. 8

Written Answers. - Garda Foot Patrols.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

217 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice the number of gardaí specifically assigned to foot patrol duties in the vicinity of Cornamona Court senior citizen complex, Dublin 10, where the elderly residents would greatly welcome an increased Garda presence in the area. [5733/96]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel to different areas. They have informed me that Cornamona Court senior citizen complex is policed by the gardaí attached to the Ballyfermot Garda Station and both foot and mobile units from the station regularly patrol the area.

They have also informed me that there is a community garda assigned to the lower Ballyfermot area which includes the Cornamona Court senior citizen complex. I understand that the community garda patrols the complex on a frequent basis as part of his normal community policing duties.

The Garda authorities inform me that the current policing arrangements for the area will be kept under continuous review.
