Vol. 462 No. 8

Written Answers. - Connaught Air Service.

Seamus Brennan

Ceist:

262 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if his attention has been drawn to proposals to introduce an air service between Connaught Regional Airport and Heathrow Airport, London or via Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5513/96]

My Department has not been notified of any proposals to introduce a new air service between Connaught Regional Airport and London Heathrow Airport, either as a direct non-stop service or as an indirect service operating via Dublin.

As the Deputy will be aware, single market rules in relation to air transport permit any licensed EU carrier to provide air services on any international route within the Community without Government control. When exercising such traffic rights EU carriers are requested to notify my Department of the proposed service in advance.
