Vol. 463 No. 1

Written Answers. - Immunisation Programme.

Mary Harney

Ceist:

21 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Health the uptake level for the new immunisation scheme by family doctors; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5780/96]

Limerick East): Contracts to deliver the primary childhood immunisation programme have been issued to general practitioners by each health board. The percentage uptake level among GMS doctors varies between the health boards from 71 per cent to 97 per cent with an avarage percentage uptake of 84 per cent, or approximately 1,400 GMS doctors. In addition, some 300 non-GMS doctors have signed the contract.

The introduction of this programme is still in the early stages. I am very pleased with the response to date from general practitioners and I am confident that the final uptake level will be extremely high.
