Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - Prescription for Medication.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

135 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health whether local general practitioners can no longer write a prescription for medication for a three month period but must write it for each month in view of the fact that some patients are elderly and cannot easily go to surgery every month. [6522/96]

Limerick East): I presume that the Deputy is referring to the provisions, under the general medical services scheme, allowing general practitioners to write repeat prescriptions.

The position is that, under the scheme, a general practitioner may write a prescription for medication for a maximum period of three months.
