Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - Public Art Research Project.

Noel Dempsey

Ceist:

172 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for the Environment whether the Public Art Development Trust, London, has issued an interim report or a final report to him and the inter-Departmental steering committee established to conduct a research project on public art in Ireland; if so, whether he intends to publish this report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5990/96]

Ceist:

173 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for the Environment whether the inter Departmental steering committee established by him and his colleague, the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht has consulted with community arts organisations or other non-Governmental agencies involved in development in relation to the review of the per cent arts scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5991/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 172 and 173 together.

The Public Art Development Trust only very recently submitted its report to the Steering Committee established for the purposes of the public art research project. The steering committee are considering the report and will, in turn, report to the Ministers involved. Arrangements for publication can be considered at that stage. The trust consulted widely for the purposes of the project, including Government and non-Government agencies, arts organisations and local authorities. The trust also consulted many interested individuals and artists, either directly or by way of round-table discussions, and carried out eight case studies to examine specific areas of public art practice.
