Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - Pollution Control.

Noel Dempsey

Ceist:

185 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for the Environment when he intends to introduce the regulations which will extend the IPC licensing to pig production operations. [6278/96]

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

197 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment when he intends to extend the remit of the Environmental Protection Agency to include section 6.2 of the Environmental Protection Agency Act of 1992; and whether this will happen shortly in view of the concern regarding the issue of environmental damage caused by intensive pig production. [6379/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 185 and 197 together.

The commencement of integrated pollution control licensing for the full range of new and established activities covered by the First Schedule to the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1992 is being undertaken on a phased basis. I will shortly be announcing the extension of the licensing system to a further range of activities.
