Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - Meath Garda Staffing Numbers.

Noel Dempsey

Ceist:

293 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Justice the manning levels in each of Trim, Navan, Kells, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne, Athboy and Ballivor Garda stations for each of the years from 1985 to 1996. [6252/96]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel and resources to different areas. They have expressed concern, which I share, about supplying the kind of detailed information sought by the Deputy on the grounds of security and in the interests of crime prevention generally.

The practice is to provide the information sought on a divisional/district basis with the strength as at 31 December for each year. I am informed by the Garda authorities, however, that Garda strengths are not available on a district basis prior to 1992. I am circulating two tables. Table A shows the strengths of the Louth/Meath Division for the years from 1985 to 1991. Table B shows the strength for each District within the Louth/Meath Division from 1992 to 1995. It should be noted that Ashbourne Station is within the Balbriggan District, Dunboyne and Dunshaughlin Stations are within the Trim District and Athboy and Ballivor Stations are within the Kells District.
