326 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the number of persons employed in the constituency office and the private office by him and the Minister(s) of State at his Department; the rank of each person; their salaries; the functions of the constituency office and the private office; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6451/96]

There are 11 people working in my office and eight in the office of the Minister of State, inclusive of support staff and back-up personnel.

In my private office, there is one private secretary, two executive officers, two clerical assistants and one programme manager. In my constituency office, there is one special adviser, one personal assistant, one personal secretary, one clerical officer and one clerical assistant. In the case of the office of the Minister of State, there is one Private Secretary, two Clerical Assistants, two Personal Secretaries, one special adviser and two civilian drivers. Annual salary and allowance costs are currently £207,294 in the case of my office and £150,588 in the case of the office of the Minister of State.

The main function of the constituency office is to cater for the needs of constituents. The functions of the private offices include the provision of secretarial back-up in the performance of official duties and the overseeing of the implementation of the Government Programme for Renewal.
