Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - Drumcondra (Dublin) Railway Station.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

402 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the proposed work involved in relation to his recent announcement regarding the reopening of the Drumcondra railway station, Dublin 9; the cost of these works; the timescale for carrying out these works; the expected date for the reopening of this station; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6000/96]

I recently approved the allocation of funding under the Operational Programme for Transport 1994 to 1999 for a package of investment in DART and other suburban rail services in Dublin, including the re-opening of Drumcondra station. The total cost of the package is £17 million. Drumcondra station will cost in the region of £1 million.

The total package of investment under the Operational Programme is scheduled for completion by the end of 1999. CIÉ has responsibility for implementing the individual elements of the package and consequently proposed works in relation to Drumcondra railway station are a matter for CIÉ. I have no direct responsibility in such matters.
