410 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the overall cost of private consultancies engaged by his Department in each of the years since 1987; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6423/96]

Since the Department of Transport, Energy and Communications was established in 1993 the cost of consultants engaged and paid under Subhead A7: Consultancies, in each year is as follows:

Additionally, in 1995 an amount of £987,000 was paid to consultants under Subhead B.7: Delineation of the Continental Shelf and in 1996 (to date) a sum of £341,000 under Subhead E.3: Telecom Éireann Strategic Alliance.
