Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - State Cars.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

413 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications in respect of his Department and each semi-State body and Government-constituted board under the aegis of his Department but with the exception of members of the Government, the persons who are provided with cars at State expense; the offices held by such persons; the number of people employed to drive such cars; the type of use permitted for such cars; and the total cost in each case. [6471/96]

No one, apart from myself, is provided with a car by my Department.

Two drivers are employed to drive Minister of State Deputy Emmet Stagg at a total cost of £26,370.

The allocation of cars to board members of State-sponsored bodies is a matter for the State company concerned and they must comply with the recommendations of the Review Body on Higher Remuneration in the Public Sector, Report No. 35 (1992).
