Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - State Cars.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

81 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance in respect of his Department and each semi-state body and Government-constituted board under the aegis of his Department but with the exception of members of the Government, the persons who are provided with cars at State expense; the offices held by such persons; the number of people employed to drive such cars; the type of use permitted for such cars; and the total cost in each case. [6475/96]

Each of the Ministers of State at my Department is provided with two civilian divers at a total cost of £52,742, half of which is paid by the Office of Public Works in respect of Minister of State, Deputy Coveney.

As regards State bodies, the only general arrangements in place relate to chief executives. In the case of the main commercial bodies the chief executives may be provided with a car at company cost. As regards other State bodies, if a car is provided for the chief executive a deduction is made from salary.
