Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - Home Helps.

Matt Brennan

Ceist:

89 Mr. M. Brennan asked the Minister for Health when the anomalies between the pay of part-time home helps and that of whole-time home helps will be addressed. [5969/96]

Limerick East): The issue of payment for part-time home helps has been raised a number of times in the recent past. In response to a previous question in this House I stated that my Department, in consultation with the chief executive officers of the health boards, has under consideration a number of aspects of the home help scheme including the overall organisation of the service and the diversity of arrangements which exist within health boards for the provision of this service. A discussion document submitted by the chief executive officer group forms the basis for this examination.

The outcome of these discussions will determine the next steps to be taken in the review of these services and I am hopeful that this stage will be reached in the very near future.
