Vol. 463 No. 4

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Members in each case: (1) Deputy Eric Byrne — the need for the necessary resources to be made available to obviate the need for water throttling and the necessity for an adequate and reliable water supply for all areas of Dublin; (2) Deputy Shortall — the need to extend the preferential terms for the Telecom Phonewatch Medi System to pensioners in urban areas; (3) Deputy John Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny)— the difficulties experienced by concrete producers in this State because of unfair competition from their counterparts in Northern Ireland who receive grants and subsidies; (4) Deputy Deasy — the need to carry out an assessment of the severe sheep losses during the week ending 16 March 1996 in the Comeragh Mountains and in the Nire Valley, and the proposals, if any, which the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry has for compensatory measures; (5) Deputy Batt O'Keeffe — the reason for the withdrawal of a letter to Cork Corporation sanctioning a tender for the construction of a swimming pool complex and its replacement with a further letter of sanction from which a condition relating to site access has been deleted; (6) Deputy Ring — the reason for the withdrawal of grant support which had been sanctioned for 1996 for a project in Westport, County Mayo.

The matters raised by Deputies Eric Byrne, Shortall, Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) and Deasy have been selected for discussion.
