Vol. 463 No. 7

Written Answers. - Clonmel (Tipperary) Estate.

Noel Davern

Ceist:

65 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay regarding the commencement of the refurbishment works at Garrymore Estate, Clonmel, County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7291/96]

In March 1995, I approved Clonmel Corporation's proposals to seek tenders for a pilot phase of work to this estate involving both the refurbishment of existing dwellings and the construction of new houses. On receipt of the tenders last November, it emerged that the authority had sought tenders for work relating to the entire estate rather than the pilot phase approved. The authority was accordingly requested to negotiate a contract with the lowest valid tenderer for the pilot phase, as approved, and their proposals were received in my Department recently. I will convey a decision to the authority as soon as possible.
