Ceist:188 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence the conditions of service of those privates/seamen enlisted into the PDF in 1994; the number promoted since enlistment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7619/96]
Written Answers. - Military Service Conditions.
Personnel enlisted in the Permanent Defence Force in 1994 were appointed for a fixed period of five years with a reserve commitment of seven years. Before the expiry of the five year term, a limited number of personnel who fulfil certain criteria and who are specially selected will be given the option of a further period of service in the PDF. In every other respect the conditions of service are the same as apply to personal enlisted prior to 1994. To date six of the personnel enlisted in 1994 have been promoted to the rank of corporal.
