Vol. 464 No. 1

Written Answers. - Inter-Departmental Committee.

Mary Wallace

Ceist:

114 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the membership of the interdepartmental committee on transport for mobility impaired persons; the number of meetings held by this committee in each of the last 24 months; the publications which have arisen from the committee's work; and the Government decisions which have been based on recommendations arising from the committee. [7703/96]

The interdepartmental transport accessibility committee comprises representatives of the Department of Health (1), the Department of Equality and Law Reform (1), the National Rehabilitation Board (2), Bus Atha Cliath (1), Bus Éireann (1) and Iarnród Éireann (1) and is chaired by my Department. During the period to which the Deputy refers, the committee met on one occasion in each of the following months: June, September and October 1994; January, March, April, May, June, July, September, November and December 1995; January and February 1996.

The committee does not produce publications. The work of the committee to date has not directly given rise to a need for any Government decisions. The work of the committee has been outlined in the House on a number of occasions, most recently in my reply to Questions Nos. 180 and 181 on 5 December last.
