Vol. 464 No. 2

Written Answers. - Appointment of Remedial Teachers.

Robert Molloy

Ceist:

96 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Education if she will approve the appointment of a remedial teacher to Scoil Dara, Renmore, Galway; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7867/96]

James Leonard

Ceist:

100 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Education the number of schools in counties Cavan and Monaghan who have applied for remedial teachers and who are still awaiting approval; and when approval for these teachers will be sanctioned. [7891/96]

Tony Killeen

Ceist:

102 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Education when the services of a remedial teacher will be made available to five schools (details supplied) in County Clare which have a total enrolment of 370 pupils. [7918/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 96, 100 and 102 together. I am not in a position at present to make remedial teacher posts available to primary schools. I will continue to review needs in this area and consider how best these needs can be addressed within available resources. The needs of all schools, including the schools referred to by the Deputies, will be considered within this context.

Twenty two ordinary national schools in County Cavan have applied for a remedial teaching service. The corresponding figure for County Monaghan is 19 schools.
