Vol. 464 No. 3

Written Answers. - Electricity Generating Station.

Michael McDowell

Ceist:

35 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the current position regarding the employment of independent experts to run the competition for the establishment of a proposed new peat-fired electricity generating station; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8135/96]

Last Friday was the closing date for expressions of interest. My Department is now in the process of evaluating those responses and will invite detailed tenders shortly. In these circumstances it would not be appropriate for me to comment further on this matter, other than to say that it is my intention to have the independent consultants to run the competition in place as soon as possible and to impress upon them the need to start the power station competition at the earliest possible date.
