Vol. 464 No. 3

Written Answers. - AIDS Testing.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Ceist:

49 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Health the difficulties, if any, in relation to AIDS testing that have been discovered in Ireland similar to the difficulties encountered in Britain; whether the same machinery is used in Ireland for these tests; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7962/96]

, Limerick East): I understand that when Abbot Laboratories became aware of the faulty test kits, they contacted those whom they had supplied and notified them accordingly. I am informed that the particular test kits have been used in only one public hospital. As a matter of routine the tests performed in this hospital using the faulty kits were referred to the Virus Reference Laboratory for validation and the negative results originally obtained were confirmed.
