17 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Defence the number of servicemen and women seconded to overseas development aid organisations during 1995; the proposals, if any, he has to expand the role of the Defence Forces in such work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8220/96]
A total of 16 members of the Permanent Defence Force were seconded to Irish aid agencies in 1995. Any further requests from aid agencies for the services of members of the Defence Forces will be fully considered. In that regard a request to release a number of personnel of the Defence Forces to assist in a hospital project in Angola is at present under consideration.
