Vol. 465 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dublin School Refurbishment.

Seamus Brennan

Ceist:

43 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Education when a decision will be made regarding Phase Two of the building project at a school (details supplied) in County Dublin; if her attention has been drawn to the original agreement in 1984, when Phase One was built, that the second phase would follow to bring the old school building up to existing standards; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10016/96]

The board of management of the school, referred to by the Deputy, has applied for grant-aid for major refurbishment works to be carried out to the older section of the school building. This application is currently being examined in my Department and the board will be contacted in the matter when this examination is completed.

I understand that, in 1984, when the extension to the school was being provided, refurbishment of the older section of the building was not carried out due to the scarcity of capital resources. The Deputy can be assured, however, that the need for refurbishment works will be fully considered in my Department's examination of the current application.
