Vol. 465 No. 6

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Areas Schemes.

Mary Wallace

Ceist:

148 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for the Environment the amount allocated to schemes in disadvantaged areas in major cities under the sub-programme for urban and village renewal; the number of such schemes; and the evaluation procedures in place for assessing the success of such spending. [10082/96]

Tables showing the amounts allocated under the urban and village renewal sub-programme of the Operational Programme for Local Urban and Rural Development for the years 1994, 1995 and 1996 have been placed in the Oireachtas Library. This sub-programme is not specifically restricted to disadvantaged areas.

With regard to the evaluation procedures for assessing the sub-programme, the operational programme provided for the establishment of a monitoring committee, consisting of representatives from the European Commission, Government Departments, Area Development Management Ltd., social partners and voluntary and community bodies. An independent external evaluator has been appointed to assist in the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the sub-programme.

The separate sub-programme for Integrated Development of Designated Disadvantaged and Other Areas is a matter for the Departments of the Taoiseach.
