Vol. 465 No. 6

Written Answers. - Fire Prevention Officers.

Seán Haughey

Ceist:

162 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for the Environment the number of fire prevention officers employed by Dublin Corporation; his views on whether this is an adequate number; whether there are any vacant positions which remain to be filled; if so, the number of such positions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10180/96]

Based on a staffing return supplied to my Department by Dublin Corporation, there were 14 officers employed by the Corporation in specialist fire prevention officer grades at 31 December 1995. It is understood that fire prevention duties are also assigned to other officers of the Corporation, including District Officers. Information on vacant posts, if any, is not available in my Department.

The allocation of staff to the various local authority service areas, including the fire service, and the creation of additional posts, where considered necessary, taking account of local needs and priorities, is primarily a matter for the Corporation.
