Vol. 465 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin School Staff Numbers.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

188 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education the current staff numbers at a school (details supplied) in Dublin 1; and if these numbers will be retained in the 1996/1997 school year in view of the severe social disadvantage of the children catered for by the school. [10105/96]

The staffing of a national school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous year.

The current staffing at the school referred to by the Deputy consists of a principal, three assistants, a concessionary teacher on account of the disadvantaged status of the school, a remedial teacher and a teacher counsellor.

This staffing will not be retained for the 1996-97 school year as the enrolment of the school has declined from 92 pupils in September 1994 to 86 pupils in September 1995. The third assistant's post will be suppressed at the end of the current school year. The teacher in question has been given the option of having her name placed on the diocesan panel for redeployment, which will not take place before 1 September 1996.
