246 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for social Welfare whether he will permit two mariculture companies (details supplied) involved in the production of mussels to make late applications to become sponsors under the student summer jobs scheme to enable them sponsor several third-level students who are studying in this field. [10176/96]
My Department is still accepting applications from both sponsors and students. The closing date for the receipt of students applications is 31 May 1996. Applications from sponsors will be accepted until the end of June.
From the details supplied, it appears that both companies are commercial organisations and, as such, would not be acceptable as sponsors for the scheme.
