Vol. 465 No. 6

Written Answers. - Crimes Against Tourists.

Liam Fitzgerald

Ceist:

66 Mr. L. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the discussions, if any, that have taken place in 1996 between his Department and the Department of Justice in respect of crimes against tourists. [10231/96]

Both the Department of Justice and my own Department are represented on the management board of the Tourist Victim Support Service set up in 1994 to assist tourist victims of crime. The board meets on a quarterly basis although additional meetings can be arranged if the need arises. In addition, as the Minister has indicated in response to previous similar Dáil questions there is regular liaison between Bord Fáilte, the Garda authorities and tourism interests about this problem.

Meanwhile the Minister continues to liaise on the problem with his Cabinet colleague, the Minister for Justice, and will continue to do so as necessary.
