Vol. 465 No. 8

Written Answers. - Proliferation of Radio Masts.

Seán Power

Ceist:

111 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if his attention has been drawn to the widespread concern in regard to the proliferation of radio masts, the increasing intensity of high frequency radiation and the damage this may be causing to citizens. [10674/96]

The question of proliferation of radio masts from a planning and amenity point of view is one for the relevant local planning authorities.

With regard to concerns about possible risks to health from non-ionising radiation produced by telecommunications masts, this is a health issue and is the responsibility of the relevant health authorities. Therefore, I have nothing to add at this stage to my reply to Questions Nos. 14, 25 and 143 on 23 April 1996.
