Ceist:

24 Mr. D. Wallace asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the total number of full-time equivalent staff in each of Ireland's embassies and consulates; if he will give a breakdown of this number by gender, status and position; and his views on the adequacy or otherwise of gender balance in our foreign service. [11271/96]

The total number of established civil servants in the Department of Foreign Affairs serving abroad at present is 242. This includes a number of officers from other Departments serving at Irish missions abroad on secondment to the Department of Foreign Affairs. The gender and grade breakdown of this total is as follows:
