Vol. 466 No. 6

Written Answers. - Blanchardstown (Dublin) Site.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

92 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education whether 20 acres at the town centre site, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, will be secured by her Department for building purposes in view of the contract condition between the developer and Dublin Corporation which expires in April 1997. [11969/96]

The establishment of a regional technical college in Blanchardstown was one of a number of developments recommended by the steering committee on the future development of higher education. Consideration by me of these recommendations, including those relating to Blanchardstown, will continue over the next few months in consultation with my colleagues in Government. As stated in my press release of 28 March 1996 in respect of the site at Blanchardstown, an agreement between my Department and Dublin Corporation under which 20 acres was provisionally set aside for a new regional technical college ensures the Department's option on these lands remains in place until May 1997. I am satisfied that this arrangement fully facilitates consideration by the Government and myself of the recommendations of the steering committee.
