Vol. 466 No. 7

Written Answers. - Foreign Sheep Shearers.

Paul McGrath

Ceist:

144 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice whether her Department has issued entry visas to non-EU nationals to work as sheep shearers in this country; if so, the number and duration of such visas issued; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12240/96]

While no visas have been issued to allow persons to enter the State to work as sheep shearers, it is the case that nationals of a significant number of countries do not require visas to enter the State. Non-EU nationals, however, are required to register with the Garda and, if intending to work, must first obtain a work permit from the Minister for Enterprise and Employment.
