Vol. 466 No. 8

Written Answers. - Traffic Fines.

John O'Donoghue

Ceist:

10 Mr. O'Donoghue asked the Minister for the Environment whether he intends to introduce on the spot fines for minor traffic offences. [7038/96]

On-the-spot fines already apply to parking offences and to the offences of non-display of a current tax disc, non-display of an insurance disc and the overloading of a vehicle. Proposals to apply on-the-spot fines to speeding offences are currently being finalised by my Department, in consultation with the Department of Justice and the gardaí. There are no proposals, at present, to extend the system to any other traffic offences.
