Vol. 467 No. 1

Written Answers. - Columban Youth Project (Ballymun).

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

230 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that funding under the disadvantaged youth grants scheme will be allocated to the Columban Youth Project, Ballymun, Dublin 11, in order that the work of this project can continue in an area with a great deal of social problems and in view of the fact that the energy of this project is currently being spent on fundraising rather than maintaining vital services. [12660/96]

Youth services in the Ballymun area and in the Dublin City area generally are administered, on behalf of my Department, mainly through Comhairle le Leas Óige, the youth work sub-committee of the City of Dublin vocational educational committee. Comhairle le Leas Óige provided £10,000 from its annual grant allocation for the support of the Columban Youth Project in 1995 and has submitted and recommended an application for financial assistance for the project in 1996 under the Grant Scheme for Special Projects to assist Disadvantaged Youth. Applications submitted in relation to the provisions of additional services are currently under consideration within the context of resources available in 1996.
