242 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education the identified cost per pupil at primary and post-primary school level; if she has satisfied herself with the existing financing of schools; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12803/96]
State expenditure, excluding capital expenditure, on a per capita basis for the primary and second level sectors in 1995 was as follows: primary £1,425 and second level £2,225. As the Deputy is aware, I have secured substantial increases in the level of funding since I took office. I am satisfied that these increases represent a very positive step towards improving the financial position of schools at primary and second levels and are a considerable achievement in light of the tight budgetary situation.
