Vol. 467 No. 1

Written Answers. - Leaving Certificate Applied Programme.

Robert Molloy

Ceist:

54 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Education the number of schools currently participating in the leaving certificate applied programme; the evaluation, if any, undertaken in respect of the programme; and if the programme will be expanded in the 1996-97 academic year. [12676/96]

The leaving certificate applied is currently in operation in 53 schools. A further 79 schools will offer the programme in the 1996-97 academic year.

The NCCA steering committee of the leaving certificate applied is reviewing the programme on an ongoing basis. Arising from this ongoing review, formal recommendations for any amendments will be presented to me by the steering committee at the end of the developmental phase in June 1997.

In addition, a formal feedback mechanism is in operation through the leaving certificate applied implementation group which is chaired by a senior official of my Department and includes representatives of all the partners in education.
