Vol. 467 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Placement.

Ceist:

69 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Education if she will assist in finding a secondary school in north Dublin which is willing to take a person (details supplied) in Dublin 5 who suffers from Down's Syndrome; if so, whether backup from a visiting or resource teacher will be provided; and the number of hours per week for which this facility will be provided. [11289/96]

As promised in my reply to Questions Nos. 159 and 160 of 13 February 1996 I arranged for inspectors from my Department to investigate this case.

The person referred to by the Deputy is due to complete primary education in 1997. The pupil's needs at second level continue to be investigated and considered by my Department's inspectors and psychologists. They are also considering the appropriate provision which may be made for the pupil, including the provision of a visiting teacher or resource teacher. When the matter has been fully considered and reviewed, the pupil's parents will be contacted and the Deputy will be advised of the position.
