Ceist:162 Mr. M. Smith asked the Minister for Defence when the pensions and allowances payable to War of Independence veterans and their spouses were last increased; and the plans, if any, he has to review this situation. [12993/96]
Written Answers. - War of Independence Veterans' Pensions.
The pensions and allowances payable to veterans of the War of Independence and the spouses of deceased veterans were last increased from 1 August 1994, when a special increase of 50 per cent was implemented. Cumulatively these payments have been increased by over 15 per cent since October 1990. There are no proposals for a further increase at this stage but the matter will be reviewed later in the year.
