Written Answers. - Security Industry Regulations.
Following the robbery at the Brinks Allied depot in January 1995, I requested officials in my Department to carry out a review of the issues involved in the possible statutory regulation of the private security industry. Certain steps were also taken regarding procedures for escorting cash which, for security reasons, I cannot outline. I have also had meetings with, and received submissions from, all sections of the security industry and these are being considered in the review. This review is nearing completion and includes an examination of the position regarding the regulation of the security industry in other jurisdictions.
