Vol. 467 No. 4

Written Answers. - Community Drugs Team.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

81 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health her views regarding a request from the Ballyfermot Youth Forum, Dublin 10 for the appointment of community drugs teams together with a coordinated plan (details supplied) in view of the growing threat of heroin abuse among many young people in this area. [13225/96]

Limerick East): As the Deputy is aware the provision of drug treatment services in the Ballyfermot area is a matter for the Eastern Health Board in the first instance. At present, the board provides a comprehensive range of services in the Ballyfermot area as follows: a drug treatment centre, a community drug team, outreach workers, assessment, family support services, education work, and addiction counsellors.

The Government Decisions of February 1996 on measures to reduce the demand for drugs provided for the further development of services in Dublin by the Eastern Health Board. A copy of the submission from Ballyfermot Youth Forum has been sent by my Department to the board for consideration in the context of this development of services.
