Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Louth School.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

206 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that the current staffing levels are retained at a school (details supplied) in County Louth; if her attention has been drawn to the difficulties that will be experienced in this school if the current staffing arrangements are changed; if she will further review and evaluate the matter in view of the particular circumstances pertaining at this school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14140/96]

The staffing of a national school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous year.

The enrolment of the school referred to by the Deputy on 30 September 1995 was 452 pupils which warrants a staffing of a principal and 14 assistants for the 1996-97 school year. In addition, the school has the services of a remedial teacher.

In the circumstances, the 15th assistant's post will be suppressed at the end of the current school year.
