Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - Incremental Credit Policy.

Dan Wallace

Ceist:

242 Mr. D. Wallace asked the Minister for Education her policy regarding the granting of incremental credit to newly-appointed full-time post-primary teachers in respect of previous full-time teaching service rendered to the State; the basis for this policy; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14425/96]

Arrangements for the award of incremental credit to second level teachers are governed by the terms of agreements reached at the Counciliation Council for Teachers.

Incremental credit may be awarded to a permanent second level teacher in respect of the following: approved previous teaching service in a recognised primary or second level school; previous teaching service in a temporary wholetime or non-incremental capacity in a recognised second level school provided that the service was given in the same school for a full school year and the appropriate minimum number of hours was involved; service as an eligible part-time teacher; recognised teaching service abroad or for relevant non-teaching experience, subject to a maximum number of years credit.
