Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - Truck Parking in Residential Areas.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

295 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, in relation to the problem of truck parking in residential areas in Dublin and in view of the expressed wishes of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Council not to proceed with designating areas which would be exempted from the proposed ban on such parking, if she will now request the Garda Commissioner to proceed with the introduction of new regulations for the other two Dublin councils and for the Dublin Corporation area in order that this problem, which is extremely annoying to the public, can finally be dealt with; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14396/96]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the matter of introducing temporary rules to ban large vehicles parking in residential areas of Dublin is being reviewed in the light of the decision of Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council not to provide a list of alternative parking areas for these trucks. The Commissioner of the Garda Síochána has received the advice of the Attorney General on the introduction of the temporary rules in local authority areas, other than Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown, and he has taken up the redrafting of the rules with the Department of the Environment.
