Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - American Tourists.

Denis Foley

Ceist:

322 Mr. Foley asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade whether the number of holiday visitors from the United States of America is continuing to increase; the total figure in respect of 1995; and the target level, if any, that has been set for 1996. [14469/96]

Overall, there has been a steady increase in the number of visitors from the US in recent years. Ireland's share of US visitors in 1995 was 587,000, up 31 per cent on 1994, and it is estimated by Bord Fáilte that 75 per cent or 442,000 related to holiday visits. The target set by Bord Fáilte for this segment of the market in 1996 is for an increase of 13 per cent.
