Vol. 467 No. 7

Written Answers. - Fishery Boards Funding.

Brendan Smith

Ceist:

447 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for the Marine the funding, if any, that will be provided to each regional fisheries board under the Angling Tourism Programme 1994/1999. [14417/96]

A sum of £18.632 millions is available for the tourism angling measure of the tourism operational programme.

Applications under the measure may be made by fisheries boards and other State agencies, community groups, angling clubs, private bodies and individuals.

A total of 49 projects, involving total investment of over £6.5 million, have been approved to date under the tourism angling measure.

The regional fisheries boards, by virtue of their specific responsibilities in relation to the development of inland fisheries, have been successful in securing significant support under the measure. So far 30 fisheries board projects have been approved to date. Details are set out in the following table.

I am anxious to see continuing and increasing uptake of the available funding by all interested parties. There is no specific earmarking of funds under the measures for the fisheries boards. All applications are assessed on their merits. The final breakdown of projects between the fisheries boards and other applicants will depend on the number and quality of the applications received.
