Treacy asked the Taoiseach when a decision to locate a project (details supplied) will be made; the location at which this project will be based; the amount of money being spent thereon; when and where it will be commissioned; the number of locations in County Galway being considered for this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. A very wide range of Famine commemoration projects, including a national monument, are being considered for locations throughout the country. The final cost of the national monument is still to be finalised. Among the 65 locations considered for the national monument five locations in County Galway were considered.
I am currently considering the location for the national monument to commemorate the Famine and I hope to be in a position to make an announcement shortly, as soon as the necessary legalities are complete.
