Vol. 468 No. 1

Written Answers. - Peace and Reconciliation Programme.

Rory O'Hanlon

Ceist:

35 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for the Marine the moneys that have been allocated to date from the special support programme for peace and reconciliation in the Border counties; the projects that have benefited from such funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11912/96]

My Department's main involvement with the Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation is through Measure 3(D) of the Sub-Programme on Cross-Border Development. This measure is designed to support co-operative actions between public authorities and is focused on the areas of fishing and aquaculture. The public funding provision for the Border counties is 833,000 ECU, including 625,000 ECU of EU funding.

The process of jointly identifying suitable projects in these areas is currently under way with the relevant Northern Ireland authorities. I expect that decisions on projects will be made, in accordance with the programme's procedures and criteria, over the coming months.
