Mary Wallace

Ceist:

83 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to a lack of any psychological services for children with behavioural problems in County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14498/96]

Limerick East): The North-Eastern Health Board is responsible for the delivery of healthcare services in its functional area which includes County Meath.

At present the board has a staff of six full time and two sessional psychologists in County Meath who work with children and adolescents with emotional and behavioural problems. In 1995, a total of 301 children, which includes referrals from 1994 and 1995, were seen by the psychologists.

To date, in 1996 there have been 213 referrals. All referrals to the psychology service are prioritised with children deemed to be at risk given the highest priority.

The North-Eastern Health Board is not aware of any difficulties with the provision of this service.
