Vol. 468 No. 1

Written Answers. - Employment of People with Disabilities.

Mary Wallace

Ceist:

85 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the successful work of Precision Workwear in Navan, County Meath, in conjunction with other participants in the pilot programme for the employment of people with disabilities, in promoting employment opportunities for people with disabilities; if he intends to make permanent the support which they receive under the pilot programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14500/96]

Limerick East): I am aware of the important role played by the pilot programme for the employment of people with disabilities in providing employment for people with disabilities. The pilot programme for the employment of people with disabilities is one of a number of measures in place to help achieve this objective.

The programme is overseen by an interdepartmental monitoring committee which is currently carrying out an evaluation of the pilot programme. The evaluation which will be completed later this year will examine the achievement of targets set for projects in the existing programme and will include recommendations about the future of the programme.
