Vol. 468 No. 1

Written Answers. - Methadone Programme.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Ceist:

91 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Health whether the total funding for the £4 million Methadone Programme is coming from the Exchequer; if not, the other sources of funding for this programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14549/96]

Limerick East): I presume that the Deputy is referring to the range of demand reduction measures announced on 21 February 1996. The total cost of implementing these measures in 1996 is £3.5 million and this funding is being provided by the Exchequer. I would point out that the proposed measures are comprehensive and wide-ranging and include methadone maintenance programmes as part of an overall programme.
